Na mitologia nórdica, Ragnarök ^[1] é a batalha que levará ao fim do Mundo (de forma semelhante ao Armageddon), na região de Midgard. Ragnarök não significa "Crepúsculo dos Deuses" (como se poderá pensar, a partir da tetralogia de Wagner); essa expressão é a tradução de Götterdämmerung, que, por sua vez, é uma tradução incorrecta da palavra alemã Ragnarök. A confusão deriva da semelhança entre o nórdico antigo rök ("destino final") e rökr ("crepúsculo").

A batalha será travada entre os deuses ( Aesires e Vanires, liderado por Odin) e as forças do mal (os gigantes de fogo, os Jotuns entre outros monstros, liderados por Loki). Esta batalha não levaria apenas à destruição dos deuses, gigantes e monstros: o próprio universo seria despedaçado irreversivelmente em partes.

Entre outros acontecimentos profetizados, Fenrir será solto e irá devorar Odin, após um inverno tríplice, com neve caindo dos quatro cantos do céu, ventos cortantes e um sol que não trará mais alegria. Seguir-se-ão mais três invernos e neste tempo, toda sorte de guerra e discórdia se espalhará pelo universo.

Estes dois grupos foram rivais desde o início dos tempos, mas os Aesir conseguiram ao longo de sua existência, prender alguns dos principais gigantes e o próprio Loki, que ficou atado em tortura eterna numa caverna. Mas pela influência das mentiras de Loki, Rune-Midgard começa a sofrer grandes males, como um rigoroso inverno, batalhas e caos entre os seres humanos.

O sol e a lua -Sol e Mani- são finalmente consumidos pelos dois lobos místicos, Skoll, perseguidor do Sol, e Hati, perseguidor da Lua (ou Mani). Estes lobos, de acordo com a mitologia, são os causadores dos eclipses solares e lunares. Quando Sol e Mani são devorados pelos lobos, a terra treme, e assim vários seres, incluindo Loki e Fenrir (um de seus muitos filhos, um gigantesco lobo) são soltos, desencadeando o Ragnarök.

Os Aesir, alertados, juntam-se aos Einhejar, os valorosos guerreiros mortos, e aos vanas, os espíritos naturais, e rumam ao campo de Vigrid, onde há muito tempo havia sido predito que a última batalha tomaria forma. Surt, por sua vez, liderará as tropas dos filhos de Musphelhein, lançando fogo nos nove mundos. A horda marchará pela ponte do arco-íris, Bifrost, que quebrará sob os cascos dos cavalos.^[2]

De um lado, os Aesir, Vanas e Einhejar, e do outro os gigantes do gelo, o exército de mortos de Hel (deusa do inferno)e Loki e seus seguidores. Uma grande batalha acontece, marcando o fim dos deuses e dos gigantes: Odin é morto por Fenrir, mas o fere mortalmente; Thor mata Jomungard, a serpente gigante que habita os mares de Midgard, mas é envenenado por ela; Loki é morto e mata Heimdall, um dos mais valentes Aesir, Tyr o mais corajoso deus que ousou botar a mão na boca de Fenrir, fora morto por Garm o lobo guardião do lar de Hel (também filha de Loki)

O céu escurece e as estrelas caem em Midgard, que é consumido pelo fogo e depois tragada pelo mar. Pouco dos antigos Aesir sobrevivem, e o Ragnarök destrói também Midgard. Das ruinas da batalha, um novo sol subirá aos céus, e uma nova terra se erguerá dos mares. Lif e Lifthrasir, os dois únicos humanos sobreviventes,que se esconderam sob as raízes de Yggdrasil, a árvore que sustentava os nove mundos, repovoarão o mundo, agora livre de seus males, num tempo de harmonia entre deuses e homens.

Elesis

Elesis is a Knight of Serdin. When she was young, she was trained as a warrior by her father who was also a Knight. Her father was a member of the former troop, going after KazeAaze. After which there were no clues to the former troop’s whereabouts and not even a word from her father. With the love she had for her father, she had decided to find her father’s whereabouts and thus partake in Grand Chase to capture KazeAaze.

Characteristic: She is known for her powerful attacking skills and her sword techniques to sweep away her enemy as quick as a flash. Elesis is capable of 80% defense rating when dealing with Archers’ arrows. Elesis is a formidable character.

Lire

Lire is an elf of Eryuell Island. The elves of Eryuell Island are known for their combat abilities but are a peace-loving species; therefore, they are strongly against wars of the continent. To help with the investigation of the mysterious affairs of the continent of Bermesiah, the elves came to be aware that all these years of destruction were caused by KazeAaze, the Queen of Darkness. The elves master thus assigned Lire to join the assistant troop to be of assistance in hunting down KazeAaze.

Characteristic: She is notable for her long-distance attacking skills and agile shooting towards the approaching enemies. Her weakness is that she can be easily chased by Knights. However, this can be a reversal for arrow attacking in some geographical features. If you are skilled in controlling the angle of an arrow and you are protected by Knights in the game, Lire is the best recommended character. 2-step running jump is her best specialty.

Arme

Arme is a student of magician in the Kingdom of Serdin. She has an extraordinary gift as a magician, seeing that she is capable in handling Black or White Magic concurrently. In spite of her young age, she is a very talented magician. Noticing that KazeAaze can lay powerful black magic and the thoughts of competing against him has given her a goal. Therefore she joined Grand Chase to face the magical power of KazeAaze.

Characteristic: Her Offensive Level Spell (black magic) and Defensive Level Spell (white magic) are the ideal magician’s attacking skills. If someone playing her character charges her MP to extreme, you had better escape from her sight. Her spell attack will be so strong that it will be more than a match for you. For just one shot, powerful Lighting Bolt and Reverse Gravity can easily knock your socks off!

Ronan

Ronan is the descendant of the Erudon Family, the legendary family of Spell Knights inKanavan. He was a Royal Guard Master whose duty was to protect the Royal Family ofKanavan. His mind was being controlled by Kaze’aze who invaded the kingdom, but heregained control when Grand Chase came to rescue and shattered the Shadow Orb.Ronan realized something wasn’t right when series of mysterious events took place;first the Invasion of Dark Anmon and then the discovery of passage to the New Worldtook place. Seeing all that had happened, he decided to join the Grand Chase force and investigate more in the New World.

Ryan

Ryan is a Druid whose combat abilities are derived from nature: he can heal his allies at critical moments and help release their latent powers. When the power he obtains from nature is too weak, he transforms himself and becomes nature. Nature isn't confined to the typical aspects of nature such as trees or the air. Ryan can transform into any living being that is part of nature and deliver attacks characteristic of that being.

Lass

As the forces of darkness grow stronger, their soldiers become more menacingand ruthless. Their attacks against the innocents of Bermesiah Continent grow more brutal and frequent. Even though the allied forces of the Silvercross Town Thief Guild’s Assassins, Eryuell Island’s Elven Archers, and the Violet Mage Guild’s mages tried to exterminate all these monsters, they remain vastly outnumbered. The Silvercross Town Thief Guild is training more powerful Dark Assassins, so called because of their black capes, to more effectively counter the evil that threatens Bermesiah Continent.

Amy

Prior to joining the Grand Chase, Amy was the dancer and oracle of Silver Land on the Xenia Continent. She left the deities she once served after the great war erupted between the gods. Since the gods were being controlled by a darker power, she joined forces with the opposition, the Silver Knights. With her lively character and charm and exceptional dancing, Amy's shot to stardom virtually overnight, raising the morale of the Knights while helping them forget the fatigue of the battlefield, a source of repose for all. However, the Silver Knights were destroyed by the dark forces and those remaining were scattered, fighting a dangerous uphill battle in a bold effort to win the gods back from the darkness. When the Grand Chase freed Samsara from evil's grasps, Amy made the decision to fight evil with the Grand Chase.
